Melanie Bishop is a marine ecologist and the co-founder of Living Seawalls. She has over 20 years of experience researching ecological impacts of coastal cities and innovating solutions to mitigate these. Through the Living Seawalls program, she is revolutionising marine construction by providing a template for how built structures can be co-designed for humans and nature. Living Seawalls combines cutting edge since with smart design to revive marine life along concrete coastlines. Since the first Living Seawall under the Sydney Harbor Bridge in late 2018, over 20 Living Seawalls have been established in Australia and internationally in Gibraltar, Wales and Singapore. Living Seawalls was a finalist for the 2021 Earthshot Prize, the winner of the 2021 Banksia Foundation New South Wales Biodiversity Award, and a Top Innovator in the World Economic Forum’s UplInk BiodiverCities Challenge.
